Bunaken National Park, North Sulawesi

The dive sites:

Most diving is done in the near Bunaken and Manado Tua, because of their many good sites. The following is the representative of diving in the region.

• Lekuan Walls (I, II, III)
  
  This long wall at Bunaken is divided into three locations: lekuan I, II and III. Together they form the best of the park. Steep walls are marked with deep cracks, sea fans and giant sponges. The shallow filled with fish. The barrier, which often are protected against the strongest currents, is visited by bump head parrot fish, turtles and Napoleon wrasse.
• Mandolin
  
  Mandolin coup de grace was a reef crest and a wall which attracts thousands of fish, such as school rifle surgeon fish, unicorn fish and fish banner. They are acclimated to divers and are easy to reach.
• Bunaken Timor
  
  There are strong currents and a lot of fish during this long wall. The shallow reef is not as spectacular as some, but there are sea turtles, sharks, eagle rays and other big fish in the blue. Small caves and overhangs mark the wall.
• Tanjung Kopi
  
  Tanjung Kopi is a beautiful wall with a small school of barracuda and many sweet lips. Visibility in the shallow is not great, but the number of fish for them. Flat Worms gobies and fire are easy to find here.
• Siladen Island
  
  Siladen has a beautiful wall of soft corals that flourish when the current run. The shallow are pleasant with lots of schooling fish and snappers.
• Muka Gereja
  
  Muka Gereja is a fun site with thousands of fish in lowland and deepest canyons leading to the wall.
• Barracuda Point
  
  Barracuda Point on the northwest Monte Hage, is one of the worst. A school of barracuda are familiar with huge catch and tuna.
• Manado Wreck
  
  This 60m (200ft) long German merchant ship sank near Molas Beach in 1942. He is upright with the 23m arc (78FT). The ship is divided amidships, almost back to back, exposed, and in possession of the wheel. Diving end on a shallow reef near. Expect 10-15m (30-50-foot) visibility.
  

How do I get there?

Bunaken island is easily reached from Manado boat propelled by support from Manado port, Molas, Kalasey and Tasik Ria beaches. The audience of Manado Bunaken boats leave every day for about 2 hours (depending on the tide), except Sunday, Pasar Jengka near Manado port. Back in Manado Bunaken usually early in the morning, around 7-8 a.m

Travel tips

• Entry tags and tickets can be purchased by naval tour operators based in Manado and Bunaken National Park, or can be purchased from one of the three counters in Bunaken Liang and villages on the island of Bunaken and Siladen on the island;
• You should be aware that during the absolute peak season months of July and August is usually very busy. Many of the best diving resorts and operators will not be able to accept walk-ins during this period because they fully booked. Better make a reservation before;
• Try renting equipment, such as large companies tend to be more reliable, but do not forget the responsibility to determine whether the material is ultimately up to you.
